Resumen

The behavior of employment in economic sectors, both at the country and regional levels, is of interest to entrepreneurs, researchers and the public sector, because it represents a key point to understand a sector in a given territory. The objective of this article is to examine the behavior of employment in the manufacturing industry of the Burgos Basin, a region of northeastern Mexico. A descriptive research was carried out and the technique of change and participation (shift-share) was applied, using data of the total employed population, from the economic censuses for the years 2004 to 2014. It was obtained that the manufacturing industry generated jobs in all the period, in a differentiated way by sectors. The national effect contributed positively in all sectors, for the period 2004-2009, with 38,889 jobs, in 2009-2014, 14,095. The greatest growth was recorded in the electrical-electronic and auto parts sectors. It is concluded that the increase in employment was mainly the result of national trends, and not so much due to the regional effect and the industry, which were affected by the boom of insecurity and the economic crisis of 2008 to 2009.
